Ending the year strong with a front cover with A$AP Ferg for the cool cats at Sniffers. A great end since I started the year with a front cover for Hype DC and Acclaim Mag with B Wise you can see over here.
I made these photos backstage, in a makeshift studio that I constructed in a dressing room in a shipping container. Jack from Life Without Andy generously loaned me half the side of the container to set up in. We took abit of a small gamble with the unconventional yellow background, especially not knowing what Ferg was going to be wearing, but I really feel it paid off.
Sometimes I find myself battling with keeping portraits simple and using classic portraiture poses, while still slowly pushing creative boundaries in myself. I feel like I really spent alot of my earlier career trying to hone my technical skills, which lead to my creative side lacking, so I really wanted these photos to push myself a little and look for other ways of capturing a portrait without the artist looking straight into the camera.
I know it might not look like much work, but these took one hour of organising, two hours of travel, two hours of reccy and setting up, 15 minutes of shooting and one hour of editing etc. 6+ hours. So I hope in this day and age of over saturation via digital means, you can take the time to appreciate these :-)
