The Tony Mundine Elouera Gym was opened in Redfern in 1984, in one of Australia’s most troubled and notorious inner city areas, known as "The Block". The gym was opened to help keep the local kids off the streets and provide a sense of community and positivity to the local residents.
It is one of the last remaining old school style gyms in Australia and has trained several world champions and impacted countless lives. It officially closed down in late 2016 and is due for demolition in 2018.
Alex Tui is a former world kickboxing champion and professional middleweight boxer. He is an Australian kick boxing pioneer and one of the first Australians to train and compete in Thailand and win a world title. He has been manager at the gym since the 1980's.
